TrumpRx explained: what it covers, and when comparing pharmacies still matters
TrumpRx.gov lists cash offers that drugmakers agreed to under the administration’s pricing deals, mostly as coupons you take to a pharmacy or links to a manufacturer’s own site. Here is how it works, what it does not cover, and how it fits with getting quotes for the rest of your prescriptions.

What happened
- February 2026TrumpRx.gov launched as a government directory of discounted cash offers on brand-name drugs from manufacturers that signed pricing agreements with the administration.
- Spring and summer 2026More drugs and more participating manufacturers were added after launch.
- August 2026Nine pharmacy benefit managers agreed to show a member’s plan price alongside the TrumpRx cash price for the same prescription.
- September 2026The White House announced it was extending its most-favoured-nation pricing terms to every state Medicaid program.
What TrumpRx is, and what it is not
TrumpRx is a searchable government website, not a pharmacy. It does not dispense medicine or take payment. For most listed drugs it gives you a coupon, usually issued through a discount-card partner, that a participating pharmacy accepts at the counter; for others it sends you to the manufacturer’s direct-to-consumer site, which ships the medicine or names the pharmacies that can fill it.
The prices are self-pay prices. Money spent this way generally does not count toward an insurance deductible or out-of-pocket maximum, and each listing tells insured patients to check their copay first, because it may be lower. KFF has pointed out that the savings shown are measured against list price, which few people actually pay.
What it does not cover
Most prescriptions filled in the United States are for generics, and generics are not part of the brand pricing deals; their cash price depends on the pharmacy. TrumpRx was built around brand-name drugs. For everything else, which is most of what people take for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, infections, mood and pain, the price is whatever the pharmacy you walk into decides to charge, and those prices vary a great deal between pharmacies.
Pharmacy participation also varies: not every pharmacy accepts every coupon, and some offers are only available through mail-order or specialty pharmacies.
How it fits with getting pharmacy quotes
The two are complementary. If your drug has a TrumpRx offer, that offer is a useful benchmark. For the rest of your prescriptions, or when the coupon is not accepted near you, asking pharmacies for their own cash price is how you find out what you would actually pay. On Script Unlock you upload the prescription and licensed pharmacies respond with a price; you choose one and pay the pharmacy.
What to do
- Check whether your insurance copay is lower than any cash offer before paying cash.
- If your drug is on TrumpRx, note the offer and whether it is a coupon or a manufacturer site.
- Ask your prescriber whether a generic would work; a generic is often cheaper than a brand offer.
- For generics and anything not listed, get cash quotes from pharmacies before you fill.
How Script Unlock gets you a cash price for your prescription
Prices on this site come from pharmacies responding to a real prescription. We do not publish estimated, average or "typical" prices, because none of those would be your price.
- 1You upload your prescription
A photo of your your prescription prescription is enough. Nothing is sold on the site; you are asking pharmacies to quote.
- 2Licensed pharmacies respond
Pharmacies that Script Unlock has verified see the request and each can reply with its own cash price for your exact drug, strength and quantity.
- 3You choose and pay the pharmacy
You compare the responses, pick a pharmacy, and pay that pharmacy directly when you collect. Script Unlock never takes a patient payment and never sets the price.
