How quoting works, from request to collection
Everything a pharmacy does on Script Unlock, in the order it happens, and exactly when a fee applies. Nothing here touches the patient’s money; they pay you.
1. A request arrives
A patient, or a pet owner, uploads a prescription. The request in your dashboard shows the medication, strength, form and quantity, with any notes; the image of the prescription becomes visible to you once you have quoted. Requests stay open for quotes for a limited window, so patients get answers quickly.
2. You quote, or you don’t
Your quote is the cash price you will charge for exactly what is written, from your own acquisition cost and margin, and when it will be ready. Patients see your pharmacy’s name and city with the quote. Quote only on what you can fill. There is no obligation to quote on any request, and a quote that is not accepted costs nothing.
3. The patient accepts, and an order is created
If the patient chooses your quote, an order is created with a pickup code and appears in your pickup list. Before dispensing you obtain the prescription the way your state requires: an electronic prescription from the prescriber, a transfer from the pharmacy holding it, or the original where allowed. The uploaded image is for quoting; it is not the prescription.
4. Ready, collected, and the fee
When the order is ready you mark it ready, and the patient is told. The patient collects, shows the pickup code, and pays you. You mark the order collected and enter the amount paid. The order fee applies only at that point, and is added to your monthly invoice with the subscription.
If you cannot fill an order, you cancel it with a reason and the request reopens for other pharmacies; if the patient never collects, the order is closed as a no-show. Neither carries a fee.
A good fit if
- You want cash-paying patients and are happy to price prescriptions yourself.
- You can check the dashboard during opening hours.
- You can obtain prescriptions by e-prescription or transfer promptly once a quote is accepted.
Check before you quote
- Your PBM contracts’ definition of usual and customary price before quoting cash prices.
- Your state’s transfer, controlled-substance and electronic-prescribing rules.
- Stock, before you quote: a quote the patient accepts and you cannot fill costs you their trust.
Questions pharmacies ask
When exactly do I pay a fee?
Only when you mark an order collected. Quotes, accepted orders that are cancelled, and orders never collected carry no fee. The subscription is separate and monthly; terms are on the pricing page.
What do I see before quoting?
The medication, strength, form, quantity and any notes. The prescription image becomes visible once you have quoted, so you can confirm the details before the patient chooses.
Can patients pay me online?
Payment is between you and the patient. Most pay at collection; if you offer delivery, you agree payment with them directly.
What if the prescription I receive differs from the upload?
Dispense what the valid prescription says, and if that changes the price, tell the patient before filling. You can cancel with a reason if you cannot fill it.
