Generic liraglutide pens equivalent to Victoza are marketed. Generic availability for the higher weight-management strength has been more limited; check the Orange Book and ask the pharmacy what it can actually order.

    About Liraglutide

Liraglutide was one of the first GLP-1 receptor agonists and is injected once a day rather than once a week. It increases insulin release when blood sugar is high, reduces glucagon, slows stomach emptying and reduces appetite. Victoza is approved for type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged ten and over, and to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with diabetes and heart disease. Saxenda is approved for weight management in adults and adolescents.

Because liraglutide is older than semaglutide and tirzepatide, its patents have expired and generic versions have entered the US market. That changes the cash-pay picture: for the diabetes product there is now genuine price competition between manufacturers, not just between pharmacies.

Side effects are similar to the rest of the class, with nausea most common when starting and after each dose increase. The boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumours applies.

Why the cash price for Liraglutide differs from pharmacy to pharmacy

With a generic on the market, pharmacies can source liraglutide from more than one manufacturer at different acquisition costs, and each pharmacy decides how much of that difference to pass on. Some chains keep the generic priced close to the brand; independents that buy through a different wholesaler can be far lower.

The weight-management product remains largely brand-priced, so a Saxenda prescription and a Victoza prescription can attract very different cash quotes even though the pens look similar. If your prescriber writes for liraglutide generically and the dose falls within the Victoza range, pharmacies have more room to compete.

Ways to pay less for Liraglutide without insurance

    • Ask your prescriber whether the prescription can be written for generic liraglutide rather than the brand, and whether it must specify Saxenda.
    • Ask the pharmacy which manufacturer’s generic it stocks and whether it can order a different one.
    • For a daily injection, a prescription covering a longer supply can reduce per-fill dispensing fees where the pharmacy allows it.
    • Check whether the manufacturer still offers a savings programme for the brand if you have commercial insurance.
    • Upload your prescription to Script Unlock and let licensed pharmacies compete on their cash price for the generic. You pay the pharmacy directly.

How Script Unlock gets you a cash price for Liraglutide

Prices on this site come from pharmacies responding to a real prescription. We do not publish estimated, average or "typical" prices, because none of those would be your price.

    1. 1You upload your prescription

A photo of your Liraglutide prescription is enough. Nothing is sold on the site; you are asking pharmacies to quote.

    2. 2Licensed pharmacies respond

Pharmacies that Script Unlock has verified see the request and each can reply with its own cash price for your exact drug, strength and quantity.

    3. 3You choose and pay the pharmacy

You compare the responses, pick a pharmacy, and pay that pharmacy directly when you collect. Script Unlock never takes a patient payment and never sets the price.

    1. 1.Is this the generic or the brand, and are they the same strength per dose?
    2. 2.How many days will this pen last at my current dose?
    3. 3.What is the best time of day to inject, and does it matter if I change it?
    4. 4.How should I handle nausea when the dose goes up?
    5. 5.Do I need to change my insulin or sulfonylurea dose?
